The End of an "Era"

February 22, 2011

Yesterday hubby told me that he'd made a decision. He is selling his Harley. It's been "down" (not running) for almost two years, we just haven't had the extra money to fix it. And he really wants to pay off his truck. So he posted an ad on Craigslist. Within 10 minutes he had a buyer. I still can't believe he's really going to sell it. It's his baby. It has been since the day he got it. I feel bad that he feels like he has to sell it, but I support his decision.

I'll be honest with y'all, as much fun as I loved riding on the back of it...I was always scared shitless. Not because I don't trust his driving. It's the other idiots on the road you have to worry about. The entire time I was on the back of that bike I was worried about someone pulling out in front of us. Nothing that a good xanax cold beer wouldn't fix though.

I was so excited when we decided to go to Myrtle Beach bike week. I just knew I was going to see some crazy ass stuff there lol. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. No crazy women walking around half dress (close to it though), no fights in the street. Just a bunch of bike loving people getting out on the road and riding. And drinking. And doing "burn outs!"

{live free & ride}
{finally got some Harley boots}

I loved going on the "Rumble Through the Tunnels." It's a bike ride that a local Harley dealership started to benefit the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. It takes the riders through all the tunnels (7 all together I think) in the Hampton Roads (Va) area.

{helloooo chaps!}

{as bundled up as I was I still froze my behind off...really}

I was amazed when we got there. As far as I could see, in any direction all I could see were bikes.

 {an amazing site really}

{bikes everywhere}

 {even some that didn't even look like bikes}

 {I bet they were warm!}

Like I said, it was freezing that morning, but once the run got underway, I didn't care. I was so excited to be a part of something like that! And it did get warmer later in the day. Thank God.

{get your motor runnin'}

 {head out on the highway}

Let me tell you, you've NEVER heard anything so cool as all of those motorcycles going through those tunnels at the same time. Amazing!

{lookin' for adventure}

{or whatever comes my way}
{teehee}

We had a blast that day. Just sitting around after the ride, enjoying the music, the  people and the food. What a fun day!

 {lol I've always loved those damn helmet stickers}

{we pretty much suck at taking our own pic!}

 {but...we DO look like a couple of tough ass bikers lol}

We had so much fun the day he took me to see the lighthouse at Ft Story. Some nice stranger took a pic of us. He must have already seen our mad self portrait skills.

 Damn we look good together!

{the first lighthouse I'd ever seen "in person"}
{what? I'm from Louisiana y'all..not a whole lot of lighthouses there}

 {I seriously thought those stairs were going to kill me. I wish I was joking}

The most fun we had on the bike was when we'd get together with friends and just take off, with no particular destination  in mind.

 {with the wind in my hair}

Or taking off and going to Boneshakers Saloon and drinkin' a few and checkin' out all the gorgeous bikes.

{you can look, but don't touch}
So yeah, I guess all those fun times are over. I know hubby's not happy about selling his bike, he promised me that we'll get another one someday. I hope he's right!

 {damn I'm gonna miss that bitch!}

note: that bike was NOT parked in the house once we got together. there's only one bitch allowed in my house. Lol...OK, OK, besides our dogs I mean.

OH man that sucks but if it is broke down and you can't afford to fix it that really is a tragedy. You are braver then me I am terrified to get on a bike and ride, though I love seeing and hearing them.

Sad day but it happens. My cousin and her husband hit rough times and they had to sell his Harley and antique car. More important things to spend money on -- like keeping a roof over your head.

Great post,I always wanted to take a trip like that but since I have gotten older I'm not sure I could even balance myself(bad back) on a bike anymore."Only one bitch allowed in my house". Loved it,lol.

We have our's parked in the dining room. I love having it there!

So sad he has to sell it. Hopefully you won't be without a bike for too long!

It looks like so much fun. I know Harley's are really more of a way of life than just a bike. It's sad he's selling it.

You DO look good together! And VA....oh VA...how that brought a flood of tears just reading the name. I visited there when my sister lived in VA. Those tunnels are so awesome out there. Sounds like some phenomenal memories and even those this chapter is at an end with this Harley....you never know what it is making way for!

A dear friend of mine lost her husband last November. He was hit by a drunk driver while driving his Harley at 6:30AM. Gary was on his way to save lives at the county hospital--he was director of the burn unit there. He was Mr. Safety. Always wore his helmet and never drove it on rainy days. So sad. I would count the end of an era as a blessing. But that's just my 2¢ worth...

Love it. My ex had a Harley when we were married, but I'd practically have to beg him to take it out. It had 3,500 miles on it when he sold it, and it was 7 years old!
